Elena Martínez Caro, an official member of Fundett, currently collaborates in Emo-Fundett as an external member.
She holds an MA degree in Linguistics from the University of Reading (UK) and a PhD from the Complutense University of Madrid, where she is currently Senior Lecturer in English linguistics and Head of the English Language and Linguistics Department (Filología Inglesa I). In the year 2004-2005, she carried out postdoctoral research at the English Department of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU) under the supervision of Mike Hannay, with whom she has published three of her articles (2008 and 2014). Her main areas of research are English syntax, the syntax-discourse interface, English-Spanish contrastive grammar, grammar, discourse and ESL and functional linguistics. In these areas she has authored a book on Focus and emphasis in English and Spanish (PPU, 1999) and, with Lachlan Mackenzie, a grammar of English for Spanish speakers (Compare and Contrast. Comares, 2012). Other recent publications include articles and book chapters on the paragraph as a discourse unit (in ELiEs, 2014), the English connective besides, with Mike Hannay and Lachlan Mackenzie (in Gómez González et al, Benjamins, 2014), evaluation in English news magazines (in Thompson & Alba Juez, Benjamins, 2014) and the evaluative function of the expression no wonder, with Laura Alba Juez (Rocky Mountain Review, 2011). She has participated in funded research projects on multidimensional text annotation (MULTINOT, headed by J. Lavid), evaluation on different text types (FUNDETT, L. Alba Juez), evidentiality and impersonalisation (J. Marín) and topic (A. Downing). |
